Marissa Nadler has been quite productive this year. She released her beautiful self titled album, toured the US and Europe is in the studio working on a new winter release. Well if that wasn't enough, she just released Covers Volume II: which features covers of Leonard Cohen, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, The Magnetic Fields and more. Covers Volume II also features two guests vocalists Face on The Film's Mike Fiore and Red Heroine.

Wow! For not having an album or even an MP3 floating around Lana Del Rey sure has a ton of fans. Were counting the days till we have this on our drives.She reminds me of Nancy Sinatra and has a little bit of Amy Winehouse vibe.

I just stumbled upon this cool dreamy artist called Pandit. Pandit consists of Lance Smith of Lumberton, Texas. He released a FREE download EP called Steady Nerves and a Strong Heartfor his fans. Download it for FREE here. The EP is great but I am hooked on this track "Kathryn, My Love" below.

Widowspeak release a cover Wicked Game by Chris Isaak on their new single out on Captured Tracks on June 21st. I heard it live and the recorded version sounds great too. Click here to have a listen. The a-side "Gun Shy" is a real treat and a nice direction for the band.

Arcade Fire tune with David Byrne

Arcade Fire will be releasing a deluxe edition CD/DVD package of The Suburbs on August 2nd. The deluxe edition will include the Spike Jonze-directed short film Scenes From the Suburbs, plus two new tracks. One called "Culture War" and the David Byrne/Arcade Fire collaboration "Speaking in Tongues." You can hear them both below.

Marissa Nadler Releases New Single for "The Sun Always Reminds Me Of You" off Forthcoming S/T LP

Boston dream-folk artist Marissa Nadler has released "The Sun Always Reminds Me Of You," the second single off her forthcoming self-titled album out June 14 on her own Box of Cedar Records. Marissa will tour behind the release in June with Timber Timbre and headline her July dates with Boston-based Faces on Film.

Her track for "Baby, I Will Leave You In the Morning" was recently featured as "Song of the Day" on KEXP, the station saying of it "the dreamy vibraphone and washing synths only serve to add to the hazy mystique that her fans have always loved." After releasing several critically-acclaimed albums with Kemado (and having one of her songs inspire the name for vinyl start-up Mexican Summer), Marissa has ventured out on her own for this fifth release. Funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign, where devoted fans donated to support her latest recorded effort, she's also offering a string of hand-painted records and original artwork via Etsy.

New Music - EMA

EMA, a/k/a the new project from ex-GOWNS singer/guitarist Erika M. Anderson, is confirmed to support Kurt Vile and Menomena on a handful of US dates late this month and early next. She will join Kurt Vile in Portland, OR, at the Bunk Bar on April 23rd; in Seattle, WA, at The Sunset on April 24th; and in Vancouver, BC, at the Waldorf Cabaret on April 25th. EMA will then support Menomena at the Doug Fir Lounge in her current adopted hometown of Portland on May 2nd. All dates will be played with her full band: sister Nikki on drums, Aaron Davis on bass, and Leif Shackleford on violin/synths. A full itinerary, including previously announced European and UK dates, is below.

EMA's video "California," the first single from Past Life Martyred Saints was filmed by director Shackleford, the video is a one-take performance with no cuts, set against a backdrop of footage of her native South Dakota and West Oakland, her California base for the past five years.

New Music - Friends

Formed on Sept. 12th 2010, Friends, played their first show for lead singer, Samantha Urbani’s birthday party in her backyard just 6 days later, before being subsequently thrust into a CMJ showcase. In the few months that have followed, Friends have played all the hotspots amongst NYC’s ever-expanding D.I.Y circuit, like Silent Barn, Shea Stadium and Death By Audio, and have just hit the road for a mammoth 29 date US tour with label-mate Darwin Deez.

Things have been moving this fast for Urbani since the spring of 2010 when, based in Brooklyn, Urbani recorded a batch of songs “bubbling out of her brain” onto ‘GarageBand.’ Summer saw Samantha temporarily relocate to Berlin to study, frequenting artist communes akin to the ‘Market Hotel’, where she currently resides, and further extending her unorthodox life approach, having been home schooled, by a free spirited, artistic small family unit in the suburbs of Connecticut. Upon returning to NYC, Urbani knew she needed a band to realize her ideas into something bigger.

Hence, Friends was formed naturally by the, well, friends surrounding her at the time. Self-taught, play anything musician Lesley Hann, 22, a striking performer of bass and keys in the band, whom Urbani had known from childhood, and stand-up drummer, Oliver Duncan, 23, were playing in a rock band together, and crashing on Urbani’s couch to avoid their bed bug problem. Close friends Matthew Molnar, 28, and Nikki Joe Shapiro, 33, worked, together with the singer, at the now locally-notorious vegan restaurant in the east village, Angelica Kitchen, where Darwin Deez had also previously eked out a living, and so, the quintet was complete.

d'Eon & Grimes tracks now! 'Dark Bloom' split out April 19 on Hippos in Tanks/Arbitus Records

A joint release by L.A.’s Hippos In Tanks and Montreal’s Arbutus Records, Dark Bloom is the title of a thrilling new split by d’Eon and Grimes. Both rising stars in Montreal's independent music scene, they produced their respective sides independently, though the project was conceptualized together.

Following the Middle-Eastern-tinged R&B of 2010’s Palinopsia, d’Eon’s continuous, circular suite addresses reliance on technology through lyrical content and sonic allusion (for example, “Telepathy” samples cell phone interference). d’Eon broadens his stylistic breadth through reference to a number of electronic genres. He simultaneously incorporates elements of (for example) Chicago footwork and new jack swing, but surprises the listener with strange forays into bygone genres such as UK drum and bass and trip hop.

Harnessing the dark energy of her sophomore album Halfaxa with the shimmering dream pop of Geidi Primes, Grimes’s side represents a synthesis of these two sonic personalities. Displaying a level of clarity and craftsmanship heretofore unseen in her releases, Boucher presents a stunning new collection of ethereal dreamscapes that expand her creative palette without compromising the spectral presence she is known for.

Dark Bloom will be available worldwide in both 12-inch vinyl and digital formats on April 19, 2011.

I saw the band name over and over through out the years but somehow I always thought it was a mix tape project or something and sadly missed checking out this amazing band. During a recent interview with Yuka Honda she was describing her favorite new music and I was very intrigued. So here is the new song from tUnE-YarDs called "Bizness."
