Will the Real Modern English please stand up.
I almost had a heart attack to learn one of the greatest bands in the world Modern English were playing in NYC unfortunately at Webster Hall but I would have went none the less. Lucky for me it turns out the whole thing was a hoax. I found below on on a site called www.flashbackalternatives.com. The show appears to have been cancelled. Can we hope that the dunderhead who tried to pull off this lame stunt will inspire the real Modern English to stand up and play some US shows or festivals that would be something else. This band reunion could do some serious schooling for younger bands.
NOT ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF MODERN ENGLISH PERFORMING
by MOD-ENG-UK » Thu Jul 30, 2009 9:43 am
The following email has been sent from original members of the band MODERN ENGLISH regarding tomorrows show at Webster Hall. This show is NOT A MODERN ENGLISH SHOW AND DOES NOT FEATURE ANY ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF THE BAND AS INDICATED ON THE POSTERS AND TICKETS. THE PEOPLE PERFORMING WERE NEVER IN THE BAND WHEN "MELT WITH YOU" WAS WRITTEN AND LEGAL ACTION IS BEING SOUGHT AGAINST THEM. please see email below..
Hi Daniel, I'm writing from London on behalf of Robbie Grey and Mick
Conroy: both original members of Modern English. Its just to let you know that legel action is currently being taken out against Ted Mason for his unauthorised usage of the name Modern English. Ted never was an original member of the band and has absolutely no right to use the band name. To date his Modern English myspace has been closed down and a legal case prepared. The advertisments for tomorrows show at Webster Hall shows a picture of the original members on the Webster Hall website and an image of Robbie Grey on the ticket. NO ORIGINAL MEMBERS will be performing at the show. It is therefore misleading to fans of the band expecting to see original members perform Modern English songs as your tickets lead us to believe. fans attanding the show need to be informed my clearly displayed notices explaining that no original members are performing and that the band appearing are NOT MODERN ENGLISH. Failure to do this will lead to action being taken against Flashbackalternatives.com. A representative of the band in New York will be attending the show on our behalf to ensure this is done. Regards Modern English

Cass McCombs Live at Joe's Pub 7-27-09
The barefoot Cass McCombs took the stage with his good looking band at Joe's Pub this Monday, putting on an excellent show promoting his new record entitled Catacombs. The band ripped through a tight set of tunes off the new LP with sprinklings of stuff from Dropping The Writ and PREfection. I was hoping for an back ground singer appearance by actress Karen Black on his sexy new tune "Dreams Come True Girl." Midway through the show he shed his scorpion jean jacket and he and the band rocked on. For the final tune he brought on stage opener Mike Bones and he and the back rocked out a tune each member taking a few bars to solo on. I didn't get all the names of the band members but he did mention Andy Macleod was on drums and Melanie Moser on keyboards and background vocals, the bassist and second guitarist were really great too. He will return to Brooklyn this coming Saturday Aug 1 to play Union Hall and the band has some great opening slots with Band of Horses out west. Be sure to catch a show.
