Washed Out "Feel it all Around" song source

I just heard the song sample for Washed Out's "Feel it all Around," which is now the theme song for the IFC television series Portlandia. The sample was taken from Gary Low "I Want You." (Above) Washed Out definitely chilled out the tune quite well in his chillwave classic.

The Whites Stripes call it quits

Their website reads: "The White Stripes would like to announce that today, February 2nd, 2011, their band has officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live.

The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health.

It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve What is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.

Meg and Jack want to thank every one of their fans and admirers for the incredible support they have given throughout the 13 plus years of the White Stripes’ intense and incredible career.

Third Man Records will continue to put out unreleased live and studio recordings from The White Stripes in their Vault Subscription record club, as well as through regular channels.

Both Meg and Jack hope this decision isn’t met with sorrow by their fans but that it is seen as a positive move done out of respect for the art and music that the band has created. It is also done with the utmost respect to those fans who’ve shared in those creations, with their feelings considered greatly.

With that in mind the band have this to say:

“The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.”

Sincerely,
Meg and Jack White
The White Stripes"

David Byrne for Free tonight in Prospect Park

Celebrate Brooklyn! presents a free concert with David Byrne. He will perform the music he worked on with Brian Eno: three Talking Heads albums, 1981’s groundbreaking My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, and last year’s Everything that Happens will Happen Today. An ensemble cast including dancers, background vocalists, and a singular band will amplify the spectacle.

The concert will be preceded at 5:30 P.M. with Celebrate Brooklyn’s first Green Gala, which includes cocktails, dinner and reserved seats for Byrne’s performance. Gala tickets, for $325 and up, are available at 718.855.7882 x33. The 8:00PM concert will be followed, at 9:45 P.M., by a dance party open to gala guests and Friends of Celebrate Brooklyn.

Back in 2005 I saw David Byrne play an outsdoor show at Central Park's Summerstage. The show went on despite the rain but Bryne did slip on stage and fall. Let's hope if it rains tonight he stays on his feet.

The Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique turns 20

The Beastie Boy’s second album cover pictures a corner building, which at the time was Lee's Sportswear. A lot's changed in the Lower East Side in twenty years Lee’s turned into a great restaurant named in tribute Paul's Boutique (top right thumb) in the LES. A few years ago it turned into (to above pictured) The Three Monkeys.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Paul's Boutique the album B-Boy's re-released it in a multitude of formats, the first being a digital download available exclusively on February 3 at www.beastieboys.com (which has been completely overhauled and re-designed to commemorate the re-release). The basic 320kbps digital download with 3D interactive digital artwork will be available immediately upon order.
