New Music - Dirty Beaches

I have been falling for bands left band left and right in 2011. Its been a good year so far in music, but I haven't been completely floored by an artist for quite some time. From the first few seconds of hearing Dirty Beaches music I was hooked. The Montreal based artist Alex Zhang Hungtai plays under the name Dirty Beaches and has a new album coming out March 29th entitled Badlands released by Zoo Music. Alex is a one man band who sings and plays very cinematic lo-fi sounds using guitar, loops and samples. I have an advance of his upcoming release on heavy rotation and I was even more excited to discover he has been releasing tons of albums, EP's and cassettes for some years now. He has a rather large arsenal of releases on many different labels. His newer music reminds brings to mind qualities of Elvis singing to a low BPM David Lynch soundtrack with a heavy rockabilly sound mashed very dark tones reminiscent of the New York band Suicide.
